Moving can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Our comprehensive relocation guide covers everything you need to know — from packing tips to settling into your new space. Let us guide you every step of the way.
Preparing for a move can be challenging, but there are various tips and strategies you can implement to ensure the day runs more smoothly and efficiently before the movers arrive at your property
Label each box with its contents and the room it is intended for. This will simplify the unpacking process at your new home (applicable if you will be handling the packing yourself).
Pack valuable and important items separately, and consider transporting them with you in your car (e.g., laptops, phones, jewelry, money).
Pack an Essentials Box: Prepare a box containing the essential items you will need on moving day and during your first night in your new home. Include items such as toiletries, a change of clothes, important documents, and basic kitchen utensils.
Thorough preparation for moving day can greatly reduce stress and facilitate a smoother transition to your new home. Planning ahead and dedication time to effective preparation is highly advisable.
Coordinate with the Movers: Communicate with the moving company to confirm arrival times and provide any specific requirements or instructions you may have.
Keep important documents, such as passports, birth certificates, and financial statements, in a secure and easily accessible location during the move. These items should be handled personally and not included in the packing and moving service.
Create a Moving Day Checklist: Prepare a detailed list of all tasks that need to be completed on the moving day, including packing last-minute items and confirming logistics with the moving company.
Disconnect and Prepare Appliances: Unplug and ready for transport, which includes defrosting the refrigerator and freezer and securing any loose parts
Pack a Cooler: If your move is expected to take an extended period, prepare a cooler with drinks and snacks to remain refreshed and energized throughout the day.
Dismantle Furniture: We typically handle both the dismantling and reassembling of furniture (service that is included in our standard “Moving Only” service) that cannot fit trough doors as it is. However, if you prefer to handle the dismantling and reassembling yourself, please ensure it is completed before the moving crew arrives at your property and store all screws and bolts in a labelled bag to facilitate reassembly. Furniture not dismantled by us will not be reassembled by us.
Double-Check Everything: Before the movers arrive, verify that all items are packed and ready for transport if you did the packing yourself. Conduct a final walk-through of your home to ensure nothing is left behind (this responsibility falls to the customer).
Stay Organized: Maintain organization by keeping your moving documents and important contact numbers readily accessible. This will assist you in managing any unexpected issues that may arise.
By following these packing tips, you can streamline your moving process and make the transition to your new home as smooth as possible.
Start Early: Begin packing well in advance of your move to avoid last-minute stress.
Create a Packing Plan: Make a detailed plan for packing, including a timeline and a list of tasks.
Use Quality Packing Materials: Invest in sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, and strong tape to protect your belongings.
